Law Firm Review Response Examples (Confidentiality-Safe)

Law firms face the same trap as healthcare: attorney-client privilege and bar advertising rules mean you can never confirm someone was a client, discuss their matter, or reveal outcomes — even when the reviewer describes their case in detail.

Respond in general terms about your practice's standards, and take everything specific offline. Several bar associations have disciplined lawyers for saying too much in review responses; the templates below stay safely general.

Copy-paste examples

1 · Grateful client, case won
"Attorney Rossi fought for us for two years and won. Life-changing result."
Thank you for the generous words. While confidentiality means we can't discuss any specific matter, we can say this: two-year fights are won by clients who stay the course, and results like the ones we work for are always a joint effort. We're grateful for the trust placed in our firm.
2 · Fee dispute
"Billed for every email and phone call. The final invoice was a shock."
Legal billing should never be a surprise — our engagement letters set out rates and billing practices before any work begins, and our team walks through them at the first meeting. We can't discuss any specific account here, but anyone with questions about an invoice is encouraged to contact our office manager directly; we review billing concerns seriously and promptly.
3 · Communication complaint
"Weeks without updates on my case. Had to chase them for every scrap of information."
Silence from your own lawyer is corrosive — clients deserve to know where things stand, even when the honest update is 'we're waiting on the court'. Our standard is proactive updates at every development and returned calls within one business day. Where we fall short of that, we want to hear it directly, and we'd welcome that conversation.
4 · Review from apparent opposing party
"This firm represents terrible people and destroyed my life. Heartless sharks."
We can't discuss any matter, but we'll address the principle: every person is entitled to representation, and our duty to clients is zealous advocacy within the law. We understand litigation leaves strong feelings on the other side of the table. That, too, is part of the system working.
5 · Free consultation, didn't take the case
"They wouldn't take my case. Waste of my time."
Declining a case is one of the harder parts of this profession — it's never about the person, and usually about legal merit, timing, or fit with our practice areas. We aim to make even a 'no' useful, with a referral or an honest explanation. If we can point you toward a better-suited firm, call us; that offer stands.
6 · 5 stars, no text
(★★★★★)
Thank you for the five stars — and for respecting the confidentiality that keeps the details between us. That's exactly where they belong.

The privilege-safe formula

Speak about "our firm's approach", never "your case". A safe response acknowledges the sentiment, states your general standard, and offers a direct channel. It never confirms representation, timelines, fees, or outcomes.

Reviews from opposing parties

A uniquely legal problem: the person you beat in court leaves a 1-star review. Respond once, calmly, noting that your duty is zealous advocacy for your clients and you cannot discuss any matter. Future clients read these reviews correctly — an angry opposing party is often an endorsement.
